MLB updates (very long)

Hello Athletes here are some stuff that are going on in the MLB:

Kendrys Morales homered from both sides of the plate during a nine-run sixth inning for the Angels in their 15-8 win over the Rangers on Monday night. He is just the third player in baseball history to accomplish the feat. Morales connected for a two-run shot as a lefty off Texas starter Roy Oswalt that put the Angels ahead 5-3. He then hit a grand slam off Robbie Ross from the right side.

Forced to leave Monday night’s loss to the Orioles, Mark Teixeira will undergo an MRI on his injured left wrist. The first baseman will likely miss at least a couple of days. The wrist is not broken. Teixeira said he first hurt the wrist swinging and missing on Sunday night against Red Sox lefty Felix Doubront. Wearing a protective sleeve on the wrist Monday night, he further irritated the injury diving for a J.J. Hardy ground single in the seventh.

The Red Sox will not trade Josh Beckett before Tuesday afternoon’s trade deadline, according to a source. Boston had tried to see if they could match up with another team in a deal involving the right-hander, but no talks went beyond the exploratory stage. The Rangers were the most likely partner, but Texas only had lukewarm interest at best.

The Red Sox fielded a number of calls about Jacoby Ellsbury, but they have no plans to trade the center fielder at this time. Ellsbury will be eligible for free agency after the 2013 season.

Ryan Dempster remains adamant that he will only approve a trade to the Dodgers, according to sources. The right-hander’s service time gives him the ability to reject any deal before it is completed. The Braves, who had a deal in place for Dempster last week, went in another direction by acquiring Paul Malholm from Chicago on Monday. The Cubs are trying to bend over backwards to send Dempster to his preferred destination, one source said, but the two sides remain at an impasse.

The Diamondbacks are trying to swing a trade for a premier pitcher, according to multiple sources. The identity of the pitcher is unknown, but Philadelphia’s Cliff Lee and Seattle’s Felix Hernandez may be the targets. The Mariners have consistently denied that they will trade Hernandez, but they inquired about Arizona’s Justin Upton earlier this month, according to some ppl

Giants outfielder Nate Schierholtz is denying a report that he has formally requested a trade. He admitted to the San Francisco Chronicle earlier this month that he would welcome a change of scenery if it meant the chance to play every day.

The Marlins have removed Carlos Zambrano from the starting rotation and replaced him with left-hander Wade LeBlanc. LeBlanc will start Wednesday against the Braves and potentially a couple more starts  according to manager Ozzie Guillen. Over his first 11 starts with the Marlins, Zambrano went 4-3 with a 2.81 ERA, 56 strikeouts and 29 walks. However, over his past nine starts he has been miserable, going 1-6 with a 7.62 ERA.

The Giants have had conversations with the Cubs about Alfonso Soriano ahead of Tuesday’s non-waiver trade deadline, according to some people Soriano said Sunday that he had not yet been approached by Chicago about waiving his 10 and 5 rights. In the sixth year of an eight-year, $136 million contract, Soriano is still owed $44 million.

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman has shot down rumors that the team could pursue acquiring Cliff Lee from the Phillies before the trade deadline. Cashman said that if New York is going to achieve their goal of reaching a $189 million payroll by 2014, they can’t take on a contract like Lee’s. The left-hander is owed a guaranteed $75 million over the next three years.
